Meet my new friend Larry Rogers. Larry farms 82 acres in Biggers, Arkansas (near Pocahontas in Randolph County). His family home was hit hard by recent flooding and needed to be completely gutted. Of course, there is no flood insurance so flood victims can be hit particularly hard.
Today my buddy Greg Ellis and I joined Arkansas Baptists from all over Arkansas to ”mud out” the homes of folks like Larry. We pulled all the wet and moldy Sheetrock, paneling and particle board right down to the studs. Whew! It was some hard work, but what a joy it was working alongside these awesome people. There was a group of high school girls from Paragould, retirees from Marion, a CPA from Alexander, a Tyson Foods Worker from North Little Rock, and my friends Bob and Drew Harper.
Larry’s been farming this land since he was 10 and has never experienced flooding like this. He built their family home in 1979 and has never before had flood waters invade the house. It will be a huge rebuilding process for many families.
Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief has been on the job since day one and will continue to minister to these families in a number of ways. If you get a chance to go help, I highly recommend it. You will be blessed even more than the families you are blessing. If you can’t go, give. And please pray. These families need our help.
