Current Status: stand down

Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief is currently deployed to Florida, where Hurricane Ian drastically swept across the state on Wednesday, September 28. Hurricane Ian made landfall as a Category 4 storm, killing over 100 people according to recent reports and causing widespread damage.  “This will be a very long deployment. We will be doing mass feeding and helping survivors get through this disaster.  We are always mindful that we are representing Christ.  Times like this is why our DR volunteers train,” said Randy Garrett, the Disaster Relief Director for the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.

On Monday, ABDR (Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief) began relief efforts in For Myers, Florida. The Red River Baptist Association feeding team, the First Baptist Clarksville chainsaw and flood recovery unit, and the Corners Chapel Baptist Church shower and laundry unit are actively working in the community to help provide help, healing, and hope. Our Incident Management Team has also arrived and is assessing the damage in the community, working with partner organizations, and working with ABDR units as they begin providing relief to survivors.

Please pray for:

  • Southern Baptist Disaster Relief leadership as they set up sites and begin working with partner organizations
  • volunteer safety as they travel today and tomorrow
  • survivors as they begin the process of recovery
