02-24 Winter Storm Update

UPDATE

A winter storm moved through the area February 23 bringing ice, sleet and freezing rain to much of Arkansas. Areas all over the state have been affected while the hardest area of impact seems to be Northeast Arkansas. There are reports of trees and powerlines being down, which has caused many to be without power.

As the winter precipitation is forecasted to decrease throughout the day and temperatures begin to rise, Arkansas Disaster Relief units will begin to deploy Saturday, February 26, to start the process of cleaning up and bringing assistance to residents.

Randy Garrett, Director of Disaster Relief, stated that they’re evaluating and assessing the affected areas and still determining where to set up DR Incident Command. All chainsaw units have been notified and several have begun preparing to deploy to the impacted areas.

PRAY

Pray for the areas significantly impacted by the ice and freezing rain and for those who have been impacted by this winter storm.

Pray for the travel of Disaster Relief volunteers as they go to help those who need it.

Pray for their safety as volunteers begin to clean up affected areas.
